Eye Care and Exams Offer Protection and Detection

You may think of eye exams as simply reading off a series of eye charts, but these evaluations involve so much more. You're doing more than showing you can still see the same charts you did in elementary school. An eye exam shows how your eyes are doing physically, too, and allows you to catch problems when they are minor. At Los Angeles Vision Center, you can expect thorough exams and caring treatment.

What Eye Care Is About

Eye care includes exams, glasses and contacts fitting, proper care of any vision wear, and treatments for medical eye problems. When you go in for an exam, you'll be tested for color blindness, glaucoma, and retinal/macular problems, along with the eye charts that you remember. If your eyes show signs of fatigue, you'll be tested for those, too. You should have eye exams every few years, becoming more frequent as you get older. Also, if your child is about to start school, you need an optometrist who handles pediatrics or family eye care.

After the exams, your optometrist will show you the results and discuss any future actions you need to take. These can range from general health care, such as eating leafy green vegetables, to specific medical procedures, like handling glaucoma if your eyes show signs of that condition.
