Astigmatism

Astigmatism is one of the most common vision disorders out there, with an estimated 1 in 3 people suffering from this condition. Although it is fairly common, it is still difficult to deal with, especially if you do not have help from a trained eye doctor or optometrist. It's best to contact your eye doctor in case you notice symptoms of astigmatism, or if it begins to get worse. Astigmatism can be easily corrected with prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses!

We can provide help for astigmatism and other types of vision disorders. If you need an eye specialist that will help you in every aspect of eye care, we've got you covered! Astigmatism

What is astigmatism?

Astigmatism is also known as a refractive error. A refractive error is called that because the light that enters the eye cannot refract properly, leading to blurry vision, headaches, trouble focusing, eye strain, and eye fatigue among other things.

These are all symptoms of astigmatism. In people with astigmatism, the light cannot reflect properly due to the cornea or lens of the eye being misshapen. Instead of round, these parts of the eye are elongated or football shaped.

How does an eye doctor treat astigmatism?

Your eye doctor will treat astigmatism by first conducting an eye exam to determine if that is truly the cause of your vision issues. Astigmatism can coincide with other errors, such as myopia, or nearsightedness, or hyperopia, also known as farsightedness.

This eye exam will help them determine the best prescription and treatment, whether that's LASIK surgery, prescription eye glasses, or contact lenses. Other contact lenses, such as ortho-k lenses, can even help correct your vision while being worn overnight. You can then take them out during the morning!

Fortunately, astigmatism is relatively easy to treat.
